The VCHT will honor Alison Flemer, Myrna Pagán and Island Adventures at a gala dinner on February 8^th, at El Quenepo Restaurant in Esperanza.

Min Flemer has been coming to Vieques for more than 40 years and was one of the first members of the Vieques Conservation and Historical Trust.  She has been a steadfast and loyal member of the Trust, at one time was the President of the Trust and currently servesas a Board member. Throughout the many years of her association with the Trust she has supported its programs and staff in innumerable ways.

Myrna Pagán was the Trust’s first President.  An accomplished professional singer and artist, Myrna brought her many talents to the Trust in its early years where her classes for local children encouraged many to express themselves artistically.  Visitors to the Trust are greeted with a series of beautiful ceramic Taino images designed and crafted by Myrna that surround the front door of the main building .  Her work adorns the entrance to the Marian and William Littleford Pavilion.  Myrna’s role in the community and her longstanding commitment to the people of Vieques is second to none.

Island Adventures is a tour company that takes visitors to Puerto Mosquito, Vieques’ famous bioluminescent bay.  We would like to recognize their generosity in supporting VCHT programs such as MANTA , our summer environmental education programs for Vieques young people.  During the last 6 years thousands of students, elderly people, church groups, scientists, legislators and others have enjoyed visiting the Bay thanks to the generosity of Island Adventures at no cost to the participants.

Volunteer Vieques!

Thank you so much for the opportunity to volunteer with The Vieques
Conservation and Historical Trust!

As I mentioned to you guys, one of the great benefits I have working
with AARP is 6 paid days of leave a year (use or lose) only for
volunteer work in the US or US territories.  I was so happy to have
found your organization!  It meshed so well with my interests and
offered me an incredible experience.

I had a wonderful time meeting and working with you.  The island is
truly a special place!  I’m sorry that we didn’t end up having more
time together but am so happy that I was able to go out on my own and
clean some of your amazing beaches.  I have attached some photos of
me, some of the trash I found, and my most favorite beach, Playa
Grande.  I know that no one can really validate the work I did out
there, but I know what I accomplished on that beach and am so happy to
have left it cleaner than the it was on my first visit.  US Fish and
Wildlife should find 4 big bags of garbage…including an old computer
monitor!?  I spent time picking up in Esperanza and Blue Beach as
well…  Everyone was so nice and appreciative!

I do plan on returning and hope to make more of an impact the next
